Antidote
The fast-approaching festive season can be a difficult time of year. Worries about worldwide and domestic conflicts and inequalities are compounded by pressure to conform and celebrate at the darkest time of the year.
Anthropocene materialism ramps up, jeering in the face of our troubled planet. The Patriarchy rages on, with little sign of abating. Familial and societal obligations pervade, whether welcome or not. Christmas can seem trite and weary.
And yet, and yet…. There is still room for creativity, humanity, humour, warmth, satire, wit, connection, playfulness, irony, spirit, the bizarre, alongside rage, grief and any number of alternative responses. Because, as we all know, art can and often does contain opposing and conflicting notions.
